چکیده

Structural damages can result in nonlinear dynamical signatures that can significantly enhance their detection. An original nonlinear damage detection approach is proposed that is based on a cascade of Hammerstein models modelisation of the structure. This model is estimated by means of the Exponential Sine Sweep Method from only one measurement. On the basis of this estimated model, the linear and nonlinear parts of the output are estimated, and two damage indexes (DIs) are proposed. The first DI is built as the ratio of the energy contained in the nonlinear part of an output versus the energy contained in its linear part. The second DI is the angle between the subspaces described by the nonlinear parts of two set of outputs after a principal component analysis. The sensitivity of the proposed DIs to the presEmail addresses: [email protected] (Marc Rébillat), [email protected] (Rafik Hajrya), [email protected] (Nazih Mechbal) ence of damages as well as their robustness to noise are assessed numerically on spring-mass-damper structures and experimentally on actual composite plates with surface-mounted PZT-elements. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method to detect nonlinear damage in nonlinear structures and in the presence of noise.

STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DETECTION BY MODEL UPDATING METHOD BASED ON CASCADE FEED-FORWARD NEURAL NETWORK AS AN EFFICIENT APPROXIMATION MECHANISM

Vibration based techniques of structural damage detection using model updating method, are computationally expensive for large-scale structures. In this study, after locating precisely the eventual damage of a structure using modal strain energy based index (MSEBI), To efficiently reduce the computational cost of model updating during the optimization process of damage severity detection, the M...

Detection of structural damage using the exponential sine sweep method

Structural damages can result in nonlinear dynamical responses. Thus, estimating the nonlinearities generated by damages potentially allows detecting them. In this paper, an original approach called the ES2D (Exponential Sine Sweep Damage Detection) is proposed for nonlinear damage detection. This approach is based on a damage index that reflects the ratio of the energy contained in the nonline...

Identification of cascade of Hammerstein models for the description of non-linearities in vibrating devices

In a number of vibration applications, systems under study are slightly non-linear. It is thus of great importance to have a way to model and to measure these non-linearities in the frequency range of use. Cascade of Hammerstein models conveniently allows one to describe a large class of non-linearities. A simple method based on a phase property of exponential sine sweeps is proposed to identif...

Prediction of harmonic distortion generated by electro-dynamic loudspeakers using cascade of Hammerstein models

Audio rendering systems are always slightly nonlinear. Their non-linearities must be modeled and measured for quality evaluation and control purposes. Cascade of Hammerstein models describes a large class of non-linearities. To identify the elements of such a model, a method based on a phase property of exponential sine sweeps is proposed. A complete model of non-linearities is identified from ...

An Iterative Method for Wiener–hammerstein Systems Parameter Identification

The class of nonlinear dynamic systems which can be represented by the block-oriented models, ie, by interconnection of linear dynamic and nonlinear static subsystems, has been studied by many authors. In the simplest case the models consist of a combination of two blocks giving the so-called Hammerstein (nonlinear-linear) and Wiener (linear-nonlinear) models and there are many methods for nonl...
